It all started with a simple conversation — the kind that didn’t seem like much at the time but would end up changing two lives forever.
One day, Aniza was talking with her friend Nicole (a.k.a. Nikki), when Rey happened to overhear the conversation. Curious, he asked, “Who are you talking to?” Nikki replied, “My friend Aniza... fat Rey.”
Aniza, shocked and not one to let things slide, quickly responded, “That’s not nice!”
Nikki laughed and corrected herself: “Okay, he’s not fat, he’s just big — like tall!”
They moved on with their conversation, but Rey was intrigued. “What does she look like?” he asked Nikki.
Nikki, being a good friend, checked in with Aniza first: “Is it okay if I show Rey a picture of you?”
Aniza said, “Sure, go ahead, but make sure it’s a good one in case he wants me.”
Moments later, Rey was staring at the photo and responded the only way he knew how: “She’s effing hot.”
Aniza, amused and laughing, told Nikki to respond with a polite, “OK, thanks.”
Realizing he may have come on too strong, Rey quickly corrected himself: “That’s not how you talk to a lady. Tell her she’s very beautiful.”
From that moment, Rey wouldn’t stop pestering Nikki — asking her to ask Aniza for her phone number.
Aniza agreed, with one condition: “Tell him to say who he is when he texts me. If I get a random number, I’m not going to answer.”
And so, their first connection began — just texts and phone calls, no face-to-face meeting yet. They got to know each other, day by day, word by word, voice by voice.
Then one night, Rey had something important to say. He called and told Aniza: “I just wanted to tell you... I love you.”
Caught off guard, Aniza replied, “OK, thank you.”
Rey followed up, “You’re not going to say it back?”
Aniza hesitated. “What if you don’t like the way I look in person?”
Rey, smooth and certain, replied, “I just know that I love you. And one day, I’m going to marry you.”
That line made something shift in Aniza’s heart. With a deep breath and a little leap of faith, she said it: “OK then... I love you too.”
And that’s where their real story began.
Their first official date was at the movies. Aniza, a little nervous, arrived early with her mom and waited in the parking lot, watching for Rey to show up.
Eventually, he did — getting dropped off by his parents.
As they met for the first time in person, Aniza looked up and said with a smile, “Wow, you’re tall.”
They both laughed. Rey could tell Aniza was nervous — it was her very first date — and he remembered that just the night before, she had shyly asked him, “Will you hold my hand at the movies?”
So, as they walked through the lobby, Rey gently reached out and took her hand, guiding her toward their theater.
Once they sat down, Rey looked over, slightly embarrassed, and admitted, “These are my dad’s pants. Normally, I wear cargo shorts.”
They both burst into laughter.
Then, as the movie played, Rey leaned in for a kiss — but with their height difference, he kissed her nose and she kissed his chin. They both laughed again, and with a second try, they finally had their first real kiss.
After the movie, it was clear — this wasn’t just a crush, and it wasn’t just a first date. Something real had begun. They both knew they wanted to see where it would go.
And as time passed, it became clear that Rey had been right all along.
He was going to marry Aniza.
Because in his heart, he knew she was the love of his life.
And deep down, Aniza knew it too — he was the love of hers.
